We would like to introduce Millie, one of our Home Care Workers from our Durham branch, as part of our ‘All Leavers, All Levels’ campaign. The purpose of this campaign is to show the different ways that our Care Workers have joined us and started their career in care. Millie joined us while studying at college and is soon progressing to university while maintaining her work with us alongside. We wanted to find out more about why Millie chose a career in care, here is what we found out:

How long have you been part of Perfect Care’s Team?

I joined the Perfect Care team as a Home Care Worker in August 2024.

What is your favourite aspect of your role?

My favourite part of my job is learning about my service user’s lives, and I also find it rewarding that they trust me to assist them with day to day life.

Why did you choose a career in care?

I chose a career in care because I knew I wanted to make a real impact and have a positive affect on peoples lives.

What are you currently studying?

I have recently finished college where I was studying Access to Higher Education in Health and am due to start university later this year where I will be studying Operating Department Practice.

Do you find it easy to balance your work and studies?

At first I did struggle but after a discussion with my manager and co-ordinator it was agreed that I would no longer work full days, as I didn’t have time to complete my assignment work.  Now I have found a reasonable work-life balance with enough time for my studies. From this I feel more prepared balancing my work and universities studies as I know to plan and discuss my availability for future shifts to fit around my work placement.

What new skills have you learnt?

Since joining Perfect Care I have improved my time management skills, my patience and I’ve also learnt how to care for someone better mentally, for example if they are experiencing family issues or emotional distress.

When recruiting for our Care Workers we want to find the people who are truly passionate about care and want to make a real difference within their local community and give back to others. We are incredibly proud to have such kind people like Millie on our team. Whether you have experience working in the care sector or not, we encourage all to apply as we provide fully paid training to all our new starters, meaning no experience is necessary!
